2023 Munster Senior Hurling Championship

Our senior hurlers made the trip Pairc Uí Chaoimh last Saturday evening where they played Cork in Round 3 of the Munster senior hurling championship. The game was played in ideal conditions as the sun filled the state of the art venue from start to finish and the almost capacity crowd were treated to an enthralling game of hurling. Played at a blistering pace from start to finish both sets of players gave everything they had in an effort to secure maximum points for their respective county. In the end both sides were tied on a full time of score of Tipperary 2-25 to Cork’s 4-19. Tipperary will now play Limerick on Sunday May 21st in FBD Semple Stadium at 4pm in what is expected to be another rip roaring game of hurling.

Tailteann Cup

Our senior footballers will commence their Tailteann cup action this Saturday evening at 6.30pm in Pairc Tailteann, Navan where they will play Meath. In what will be a very competitive group, Tipperary will then welcome Down to FBD Semple Stadium on Sunday May 21st as part of a double header with the senior hurlers Munster championship game with Limerick. Tipperary’s final game in the group will be a clash with neighbours Waterford at a neutral venue to be decided.

Munster Under 20 Hurling Championship semi final

Our under 20 hurlers interest in this year’s championship came to a disappointing end on Monday evening in FBD Semple Stadium when they suffered a nine point defeat at the hands of Clare. This was a game that did little to excite the attendance who would have been expecting a little bit more than what they got on the night. We thank Brendan Cummins and his management team as well as all the players who were part of the 2023 under 20 hurling panel and we wish Clare the very best of luck in the final against Cork.

Sympathies

We extend sincere sympathies to Tipperary senior football manager David Power on the sad passing of his mother Miriam last Sunday. We also express sympathy to Miriam’s husband and former county board Treasurer Michael and David’s brother Kevin at this very sad and difficult time for them all. May Miriam Rest in Peace.

All Ireland Scór Na nÓg Final

Killarney was the venue for the 2023 All Ireland Scór Na nÒg Final. The premier county had three wonderful competitors seeking national titles. First up was our quiz team from Newport who took part in the table quiz. In what was a good tough quiz the team done both their club, county and province proud. Despite their good showing it was not enough to advance. Our thanks to all in Newport for their work. The onstage competitions got underway at 3pm with our figure dancers from Newcastle dancing a wonderful cross reel. This stunning performance saw them crowned All Ireland Champions for a third year in what is a fantastic achievement. Huge congratulations to the girls and of course to their coach Kathy McGrath. Our final Tipperary competitor was young Daithí Kennedy from the Templederry Kenyons club who took part in the recitation competition. Daithi’s performance of the ‘Cross eyed Monaghan Hurler’ went down a treat. Daithí’s performance also saw him crowned All Ireland Champion for 2023. We congratulate Daithi on his win and we thank him and his team for all their work over the past few months.

Best Wishes to Tipperary Camogie Team

Tipperary GAA would like to wish the Tipperary senior camogie team the very best of luck in this Saturdays Munster final against Clare. The game will be played as a curtain raiser to the Clare v Waterford senior hurling game in FBD Semple Stadium. The camogie game throws in at 3.30pm and we encourage as many Tipperary supporters as possible to head to Thurles to support the girls.

Gortnahoe Glengoole Official Opening

This coming Sunday will be an historic day for the Gortnahoe Glengoole GAA club as they officially open their new pitch at the club grounds in Gortnahoe village. After many years of hard work by a very dedicated committee, next Sunday’s event will make all that hard work worthwhile. Events commence at 12.30pm with the blessing of the pitch and official opening by county chairman Joe Kennedy which will be followed by a parade at 12.30pm and then a Premier Intermediate hurling game between Gortnahoe Glengoole and Killenaule. It promises to be a great occasion and the Gortnahoe Glengoole club would love to see a big crowd in attendance on the day.

Gaeltacht Scholarships 2023

Applications are now open for the Gaeltacht Scholarships 2023. Any persons wishing to apply for the scholarship must fill in the form which was sent to each club and return it to irishculturalofficer.tipperary@gaa.ie by Friday May 12th at 12pm. Please note that the Scholarships are only open to 2nd, TY and 5th Year Students and if you have already received a scholarship you are unable to apply. All, applicants will be called for interview after the closing date. Please have an up-to-date email address as interviews will be communicated via this. Any inquiries can be sent to the above email address.

Community Climate Coaches seeking GAA participants in Co. Tipperary

Across the country, communities are leading on climate action. In Co. Tipperary, the program, Community Climate Coaches, aims to connect like-minded individuals, and co-develop and start community-led climate and biodiversity action projects in a Continuous Development Program training course to support sustainable, thriving communities. The group would love for participants from GAA Clubs to get involved and hope that members who are interested in sustainability and community development would want to join this pioneering program. Participants will meet 10 times (3 in-person sessions, 7 online sessions) between now and April 2024, with the first session being an in-person session happening in Cloughjordan on Saturday 20th May. They can only accept participants aged 18+ but are looking to have people of all other ages and backgrounds join. More information can be seen on the Community Climate Coaches website
