We’ve avoided Liam versus Liam for now, but Lohan versus Liam definitely promises to be just as interesting. Two hard-nosed defenders from the 1997 All-Ireland Final go face to face and in what promises to be rough encounter.
The legendary Clare full-back certainly put the Banner men back on the hurling map against Waterford last weekend, but for Tipperary it was definitely a case of forewarned is forearmed. I personally didn’t see such a complete performance coming against Liam Cahill’s men but Clare showed that we need to be at a high level in Limerick next weekend to make our way through to the Munster Final.
They say that a team takes on the spirit of their manager on the field, and the sharp Lohan edge was clear to see as he prowled the sideline last Sunday. Hands on hips - a replica of his strut all those years ago after another monster clearance. Only for the disappointing absence of a red baseball cap, you could well have been transported back to the great days of the mid 90s.
Although Clare looked really sharp and intense, you would have to say that there was a serious lack of energy and bite from Waterford, and I really feel Tipperary will bring this missing element after an extra week of preparation......
