TIPP TEAMS IN ACTION Good results on the hurling front in the week past with both minor and U21 teams victorious in their respective games. The U20 hurlers followed up their victory over Cork with a second one over Waterford in Cappoquin Logistics Fraher Field in Dungarvan on last Wednesday, April 1st. If the former performance could be viewed as a below par display, the latter left supporters nonplussed. Victories in Dungarvan are hard-earned and the team produced a typical committed display. However, the tactics, which regularly left Cormac Fitzpatrick as the only attacker against 2-3 defenders in the second half with the aid of the wind, meant that the team relied on the home side’s poor shooting to claim an edgy victory. Hopefully, lessons will be learned as better forwards would have ensured a defeat close to double digits…and the next opponents have those better forwards. They play Clare on April 22nd in FBD Semple Stadium at 7pm.No such quibbles with the performance of the minor hurlers in their victory over Clare last Friday, 3rd April, in FBD Semple Stadium in Round 1 of the Electric Ireland Munster Minor Hurling Championship. This was a seven goal thriller of a very high standard which swung back and forth until Tipp took it by four points. Manager James Woodlock paid tribute to his young charges ability to put setbacks behind them and push on: that accolade is well deserved indeed. Cork are their next opponents on April 17th in FBD Semple Stadium at 7pm.On the same night as the minor match (how do the people in charge of fixtures manage to keep doing this?), the U20 footballers went down in disappointing fashion when they were defeated by Waterford in Lemybrien on a 1-17 to 0-11 scoreline. This ends their interest in the championship after hopes were raised when they defeated Limerick last day out.
