TIPPERARY GAA SCENEIn this weeks Tipperary GAA Scene we take a look back at last weekend’s Round 2 games in FBD Insurance County Hurling Championships as well as looking ahead to this weekend’s Football games.FBD Insurance County ChampionshipsRound 2 of the FBD Insurance County Hurling Championships took place last weekend and provided great entertainment across all 3 grades.In the Senior Hurling Championship, the action got underway on Friday evening when Borris-Ileigh and Kilruane MacDonaghs met in Dolla. This was a very exciting game of hurling that looked to be going the way of Borris-Ileigh, however Kilruane MacDonaghs never gave in and in the end emerged winners by the narrowest of margins on a full-time score of 1-18 to 1-17.On Saturday, JK Brackens and Clonoulty met in Borrisoleigh in a game that was expected to go down to the wire. However JK Brackens proved to be too strong for their opponents on this occasion as they stormed to a very impressive 2-26 to 4-14 win. Also, in Borrisoleigh on Saturday, Toomevara looked equally impressive as they swept aside the challenge of Drom & Inch with some ease, winning by 1-24 to 1-19. In Templemore Thurles Saesfields met a Moycarkey Borris side who looked good in their Round 1 win over Roscrea, however on this occasion they came up against a Thurles side who were determined to continue on winning ways and in the end Sarsfields had a comfortable 3-20 to 2-13 win. The other game in group 2 resulted in a second defeat for Roscrea who went down on a 1-26 to 2-20 score line to their opponents CJ Kickhams Mullinahone. At the same time in Cloughjordan, it was the group 3 clash of Lorrha Dorrha and Nenagh Eire Óg, both of whom came into the game hoping to get back to winning ways. In a game that provided no less than 10 goals, it was Nenagh who got their championship ambitions back on track thanks to a 7-28 to 3-07 win.Next into action were the defending champions Kiladangan who took on Templederry Kenyons on Sunday afternoon in Nenagh, and while Kiladangan may not have played up to their own very high standards in round 1 they made no mistake on this occasion as they ran out winners on a full time score of 4-31 to 2-17. Next into action were the hurlers of Loughmore Castleiney and Holycross Ballycahill in what many had expected to be the game of the weekend. In truth this game never really came to life as Loughmore Castleiney did enough to keep their opponents at bay winning by 0-21 to 0-14.In the Premier Intermediate Championship, there were eight more very interesting games played over the weekend. On Saturday in Templederry, Upperchurch Drombane enjoyed a 1-23 to 1-15 win over Silvermines in group 1. In group 4 Killenaule defeated Sean Treacys by 3-24 to 1-18 when the sides met in Dundrum. The clash of Eire Óg Annacarty Donohill and Gortnahoe Glengoole in Cashel proved to be a highly entertaining game that resulted in a 1-point win for the West Tipperary side 2-18 to 2-17. Also, on Saturday Burgess and St Marys met in their group 4 game which was played in Dundrum and once again this was a very close game that resulted in a 1-18 to 2-12 win for the Clonmel side. In group 1 Carrick Swan continued their winning ways as they enjoyed a 3-18 to 1-19 win over Ballina in Cashel.On Sunday in Littleton both Cashel King Cormacs and Moyne Templetuohy knew that a win was very important and in a highly entertaining game it was Cashel’s ability to score goals that proved to be the difference as they won by 3-19 to 0-19. In Toomevara Newport and Clonakenny met for their group group 3 game, and it was the men in black and yellow who proved to have too much for their North Tipperary opponents, as they stormed to a 10 point win on a full time score of 1-25 to 1-15. The final game in the Premier Intermediate grade was played in Dundrum and resulted in a fine 0-24 to 0-18 win for Thurles Sarsfields over Boherlahan Dualla.In the Intermediate grade the action got underway on Friday evening in The Ragg when an on form Moneygall side who look very impressive so far this year, secured another fine 4-22 to 1-21 win over Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams.On Saturday in Davin Park, in what was one of the best games of the weekend, Ballingarry had just the minimum to spare over Kilsheelan Kilcash 2-17 to 4-10. At the other end of the county, Arravale Rovers and Portroe met for their group 3 game in Newport, and it was Portroe who claimed the points thanks to a fine 1-28 to 1-19 win. In Golden Ballybacon Grange overcame a stern test as they defeated Cappawhite by 2-12 to 0-15 in group 1.On Sunday in Nenagh, Shannon Rovers and Drom & Inch both went in search of a victory in group 3 and it was Rovers who came away with the win on a full time score of 2-17 to 0-19. In Bansha, Golden Kilfeacle had 3 points to spare over their West Tipperary opponents Clonoulty Rossmore 0-19 to 0-16 in group 1, While Borrisokane defeated Skeheenarinky by 1-26 to 4-11 in Cappawhite. There was another very competitive and entertaining game played in Gortnahoe that saw Carrick Davins overcome Upperchurch by a single point on a final score of 3-10 to 3-09.The attention this coming weekend will turn to Round 2 of the FBD Insurance County Football Championships, with a total of 14 games down for decision across the Senior, Intermediate and Premier Junior championships. All the fixtures for these games are available on the Tipperary GAA website, in the fixtures and results section. Patrons are reminded that tickets priced at Adults €12, OAP €8 and Student €6 are now available on the ticket section of the Tipperary GAA website. FITSERV FITTEST FOUR CHARITY EVENT Fiserv, our main sponsor for the past 3 years has been one of our more proactive sponsors, doing half time shows at league games, handing out merchandise and facepainting before games and have raised over €60,000 for charities over the last two years. This year’s event is on Saturday 7th September running from 9am to 9pm. TIPPERARY CAMOGIE Congratulations to the Tipperary Junior players and management who enjoyed a thrilling 1 point win over Laois in last weekend's Premier Junior All Ireland final which was played on Sunday afternoon in Croke Park. The players displayed a real never say die attitude that got them over the line in the end. There is no doubt that this win will serve to further improve the profile of Camogie in Tipperary which has been enjoying very good success in recent years.

GAELIC GAMES PLAYER WELFARE CONFERENCE This year’s Gaelic Games Player Welfare Conference will take place on Saturday, August 31st at the TUS Athlone Campus. The thematic focus of the event will centre around ‘Optimising ACL Rehabilitation & Return to Play in Gaelic Games’.The morning programme will focus on the physiology of ACL injury, while the afternoon slot will explore the ACL environment across areas such as Psychology, Nutrition and Gender. The event is free of charge and will feature keynotes from industry experts across a range of specialties related to the field. The target audience for the conference includes Medical and Sports Science Practitioners working in Gaelic Games.In addition, an educational opportunity has opened for applicants (primarily from a non-medically trained background) in the concussion space. UCD are running a micro-credential course entitled; “Concussion: An Overview for Amateur Sports”. The course is run completely online and several medical experts who are involved in Gaelic Games have had an input into the course content. The course is designed for those involved in amateur sports who want to learn more about concussion, the warning signs to look out for and how to help a player in the post-concussion phase.
