Tipperary Supporters Club AGM Report
The 37th AGM of the Tipperary Supporters Club was held in The Dome at FBD Semple Stadium on Sunday 11 February 2023 following the Allianz Hurling League win over Galway earlier that afternoon with a good attendance of members from Tipperary and further afield.
Following the approval of the minutes of the previous AGM, Bryan Maher, Assistant Treasurer, presented the audited accounts for the year to 30th September 2023, which resulted in grants of almost €85,000 for expenses including training camps, physical training and performance analysis, catering, transport and accommodation connected with the Senior Hurling panel.
In his report to the AGM as Secretary Billy Coman summarised the highlights of the Club’s activities in 2023. He also urged Tipperary Supporters to get fully behind the team in 2024 and bring a strong vocal support to their games. Billy highlighted the forthcoming Night at the Dogs in Thurles on 24 February and asked all Tipperary Supporters to come along to what promised to be a great night of entertainment. Billy thanked all the Tipperary Supporters and membership sellers for their support to date. He also acknowledged the support of our loyal sponsors, committee officers and members, county board officials and staff, team management and of course the players for their time and generosity in supporting the fund-raising efforts of the Club. He wished Manager Liam Cahill, his selectors and backroom team every success in 2024. His full report is available to all TSC members on request to info@tippsupportersclub.com. Billy paid tribute to Terry O’Neill, outgoing Chair, and to John Coman, outgoing Public Relations Officer for their contribution to the Tipperary Supporters Club.
In his address as Chairperson, Terry O’Neill thanked all the Tipperary Supporters including club members, sponsors, committee members and fellow officers, county board officials, team management and the players for their time and support over the past 5 years. The Senior Team and the new Senior Hurling Management team for 2023 had made significant progress with qualification from the Munster Championship as far as the All-Ireland Quarter Final. On behalf of the Tipperary Supporters Club, Terry thanked Liam Cahill and his management team for their dedication to Tipperary and wished them well for the season ahead.
Noel McGrath, Loughmore-Castleiney, was chosen as the 2023 Tipperary Player of The Year by vote of the Tipperary Supporters Club members. Noel was presented with the award later in the meeting. The beautiful trophy was again designed and kindly sponsored by John Quirke, Jeweller, Cahir. Noel was also presented with the Tony Reddin Perpetual Cup, kindly donated by Tony's wife Mrs Maura Reddin.
John Coman, Public Relations Officer, reported on the membership scheme and asked all members to make a special effort to encourage extra members to join up and to ask existing members to re-join using the direct debit facility. Members paying by direct debit for the first time will enjoy a special half-price membership rate of €20 for 2024. John especially thanked Membership Officer Jim Reidy and committee member Danny O’Connell for their great work on the membership area. John also thanked Jonathan Cullen for his help with the Tipperary Supporters Club as County Board PRO. As John was handing on the PRO role, he thanked all those who had helped him in that role including Tipperary Supporters Club Officers and Committee members, County Board Officers and Staff, players, management teams and colleagues in the local media.
The following officers were appointed: Michael Bourke, Chairperson; Billy Coman, Secretary; Eleanor Lahart, Treasurer (automatic re-appointment); Bryan Maher, Assistant Treasurer; Michael Collins, PRO; and Jim Reidy, Membership Officer.
Terry O'Neill invited Jimmy Minogue, Chairperson of the County Board to address the meeting and Jimmy thanked the Supporters Club for playing such a long-standing role in Tipperary Hurling. He also praised the great co-operation between the County Board and the Tipperary Supporters Club. Also present at the meeting was Eleanor Lahart, Treasurer, County Board, Jonathan Cullen, PRO, and Murtagh Brennan, CEO.
Liz Howard, on behalf of the Tipperary Association Dublin congratulated the Club on the great vision maintained since the time of its formation. In particular, Liz thanked Terry O'Neill and John Coman for their contribution to the work of the Club.
That ended the formal business of the AGM and incoming Chairperson Michael Bourke presented the Tipperary Hurler of the Year Award and the Tony Reddin Perpetual Cup to Noel McGrath. Noel expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation and said how honored he was to accept. He thanked the Supporters club for all their work to help fund the team preparations which he said was appreciated by all the players.
Michael Bourke also warmly welcomed Liam Cahill, Senior Team Bainisteoir, and wished him every success in his efforts along with Michael Bevans as coach and Declan Laffan and TJ Ryan as selectors and assured him of the Tipperary Supporters Club continued support in every way possible in 2024.
Liam Cahill thanked the Tipperary Supporters Club for all their funding efforts and support. He commented on the strong competitive element in the Senior Panel. Liam also referred to the close links between the senior management team and the minor and under 20 management teams with a view to developing players at all age groups. His intention and challenge is to have Tipperary hurling in a good place now and for the future and gather some silverware along the way. Liam also commented on the great Tipperary support at the match against Galway earlier that afternoon and on the continuing need for the Supporters Club input to team preparations to ensure the Tipperary Team competes at the highest level with the best possible preparation and organisation. He also urged all Tipperary Supporters to come to the Night at the Dogs on 24 February for which tickets were also being sold by the players.
Michael Bourke thanked Liam Cahill for attending and his presentation and brought the AGM proceedings to a close .
